The Majestic is proud to present its new Michèle Morgan Suite

The Michèle Morgan Suite at the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes, which opened in October 2017, will be the “star suite” at the next Cannes Film Festival.

MAJESTIC BARRIERE - cannes

Measuring 85m2, this magnificent suite full of history, luxury and elegance bears witness to the cultural heritage of French cinema. The Majestic’s Michèle Morgan Suite, opened in October 2017 in the presence of Danièle Thompson, the daughter-in-law of the heroine of Quai des Brumes (Port of Shadows), and Samantha Marshall, her oldest grandchild, will undoubtedly be the “star suite” of this legendary hotel dating back over 100 years, the history of which is closely linked to that of the cinema and the Cannes Film Festival. A unique suite which follows in the footsteps of one of the silver screen’s iconic characters!

This luminous and relaxing living space, which looks out at the Bay of Cannes, the Lérins islands and the steps of the Palais des Festivals (the Majestic is the only 5-star hotel to offer this superb view), has been imbued with its unique ambience by Chantal Peyrat, a designer who is very familiar with the spirit of Barrière’s hotels, having been entrusted with the renovation work at the Royal and Hermitage hotels in La Baule, and who is capable of providing all kinds of spaces with their own special atmosphere.

According to its designer, this suite is the perfect expression of “timeless chic”. It is named after the famous French film actress who died in December 2016 and who was awarded the Best Actress prize at the first Cannes Film Festival in 1946. She played the unforgettable Nelly in the equally unforgettable film Quai des Brumes (Port of Shadows) by Jean Carmé, alongside Michel Simon and Jean Gabin, in which the latter declares to the heroine in a gruff voice full of tenderness, “T’as d’beaux yeux, tu sais!” (“You’ve got beautiful eyes, you know”), a remark which has become one of French cinema’s iconic quotes.

The designer has used a palette of soft, gentle colours to create a luxurious and glamorous feel, with subtle references to the actress in the decor, including images of her famous eyes! Some of the actress’s personal belongings have been donated to the hotel by her family, adding an intimate ambience to the suite which gives guests the impression of sharing a small part of her life. Works of art and posters from Michèle Morgan’s personal collection adorn the walls and bookshelves of this suite dedicated to her, helping to keep alive the memory of one of the great actresses of French cinema.

This is the added attraction of the Michèle Morgan Suite which is so much more than just a name, as it traces the history of a famous personality and offers an extra hint of “je-ne-sais-quoi”.

Already much in demand and including all the high-end luxury services offered by the Majestic (unpacking and packing of your luggage on arrival and departure, your own dining service and a personal butler on call 24hr a day, to mention just three), this will undoubtedly be the “star suite” at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
