Sunshine & Gourmet delights

The Hôtel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion is offering its guests even more this spring with the opening of its La Terrasse du Gray restaurant. This tranquil and cosy setting, with its fresh, light decor and resolutely Mediterranean menu, is a delightful new address in Cannes as the warm weather of spring and summer approaches.

As far as restaurants are concerned, the Barrière Cannes Resort has more than one string to its bow. For some years now, discerning local food-lovers have been regular guests at Le Fouquet’s Cannes and La Petite Maison de Nicole, the two restaurants at the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic. And in spring and summer, they’ve also been able to enjoy lunch overlooking the sea at the Majestic and Gray d’Albion’s beach restaurants. This spring a new option will be available to diners with the opening of a fifth gourmet restaurant – La Terrasse du Gray.

As its name suggests, La Terrasse du Gray is the new restaurant at the Hôtel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion. Occupying a fully renovated room on the first floor of the 4-star hotel on Rue des Serbes, the restaurant is decorated in a sober, contemporary style with light colours which are brightened here and there with touches of sea-green and yellow. Natural light takes pride of place, flooding into the restaurant through the large floor-to-ceiling windows.

The eponymous terrace lies the other side of these windows, with a decor which echoes that of the dining room, producing a cosy, almost mirror-like effect. The restaurant can be accessed via a private staircase which leads directly to the Rue des Etats-Unis, ensuring a tranquil ambience.

Fresh and elegant

The restaurant’s new look is the work of Christophe Pillet, a French interior designer whose impressive references include the transformation of the Lancel boutiques in France, a role as director of design for Lacoste, and several projects in collaboration with Jean-Claude Jitrois.

The aim of La Terrasse du Gray was to create a successful fusion between its exterior and the dining room inside. The result is a decor that focuses on a contemporary, restrained yet fresh feel. As a consequence, the dining room boasts bright tones that have been enlivened with natural colours such as sea green and saffron, with light flooding in through the large bay windows. Vallauris ceramics, Mediterranean plants and bouquets of aromatic herbs accentuate the natural feel of the restaurant – an ambience that can also be enjoyed on the famous terrace nestled within the hotel itself, a haven of chic and discreet charm in keeping with the Côte d’Azur!

Mediterranean flavors

This summer, La Terrasse du Gray will be open every evening from 7.30pm, allowing guests to take advantage of the day’s final rays of sunshine. However, even when the sun has dipped below the Estérel mountains, Maryan Gandon, executive chef at the Barrière Cannes Resort, continues to extol its virtues in his dishes, thanks to his skilful preparation of fresh seasonal ingredients that showcase the very best of the Mediterranean. Start your meal perhaps with a red tuna tartare or veal carpaccio with aged parmesan, followed by a risotto or anise-flavoured sea bass, accompanied by one of the wines selected by Guerrick Baray, head sommelier at the Hôtel Barrière le Majestic.

Once the main course has finished, Michael Durieux will come into his own, enticing guests with his trolley of desserts, featuring perennial favourites that our pastry chef has embellished with his own personal touch, such as his Mojito-style baba and his strawberry tart with Soho cream.

La Terrasse du Gray will be open from 7.30pm every evening from 29 May to mid-September.
